Skid steers, also known as skid steer loader, multi-functional engineering vehicle, and multifunctional engineering machine, is a special wheeled chassis equipment that uses the difference in linear velocity of the wheels on both sides to realize vehicle steering. The advantage of the skid steer loader is that it is especially suitable for operations in narrow places such as urban infrastructure, roads or construction sites, workshops, warehouses, docks, ship decks and even cabins. This is the difference between it and conventional loaders, it can work in a narrower field, which is not possible with large loaders.
The design principle of the skid steer loader focuses on the wheelbase.
Two concepts will be involved here. The wheelbase is the distance from the front axle to the rear axle. When designing a skid steer loader, if the wheelbase is too short, it will cause the problems of small power required for mechanical rotation, poor stability, and small rated load. However, if the wheelbase is too long, although the stability increases, the rotation is relatively difficult. More power is required, which will also cause tires to wear too quickly and the walking parts to be stressed. The wheelbase determines the lateral stability and slippage of the vehicle body. The optimized wheelbase-to-wheelbase ratio of the skid steer loader is about 1.4:1. The optimized wheelbase-to-wheelbase ratio can provide the machine with better stability and optimized steering performance. And reduce energy loss, reduce tire wear.
The skid steer loader can be equipped with a lifting arm, a solid body, and an engine, and can be equipped with a variety of attachments for operation.
Skid steer loader is maneuverable and flexible, with independent drives on the left and right sides, and a machine with balanced distribution of power, carrying capacity, and load. The power is generally 20-50 kilowatts, the mass of the main engine is 2000-4000 kilograms, and the speed is 10-15 kilometers per hour. Skid steers can be used in places with narrow spaces, uneven ground, and frequent job changes. It is also suitable for infrastructure construction and industry. Deciding between a tracked vs. wheeled skid steer comes down to the surface and terrain.Applications, wharf loading and unloading, urban streets, residences, barns, livestock houses, airport runways, etc., and can also be used as auxiliary equipment for large-scale construction machinery.
A good skid steer loader supplier will talk you through these considerations and advise on the size and type of machine you need and any attachments that could help you do the job more efficiently.
